Couples - Do Opposites Really Attract?
Notes From Dad
When you begin dating in your early years, you probably do not wonder about the importance of attraction; yet many couples as they grow older look to balance their relationship by choosing a partner that is very opposite to themselves. This article touches upon the beliefs that opposites do attract.
There have been studies that couples who are opposite to one another, actually can have lasting relationships; some people feel that becoming involved with someone that is just like themselves can become boring and dull. Having similar interests can lead to smothering, by that I mean, a 24/7 relationship, where you begin to lose your independence. Science has suggested that opposites can not only be exciting but also fun, so let’s take a look at a few pros and cons.
Some pros, as mentioned earlier, is the excitement. The rush of adrenaline between one another may be intense and fulfilling; couples also learn different points of views and ways to negotiate; and finally you are able to see the glass which may be half empty clearer.
Some cons in such a relationship is the danger of satiation, where the excitement grows weary and no longer creates that spark between the two of you. Another con that can be worrisome is the difficulty seeing eye to eye, that potentially may cause arguments; and finally couples that are opposites may have different life expectations and goals.
The choice is yours, whichever one you choose, always remember a relationship requires work from both of you.
Good Luck !
