Honesty in a Relationship
Notes From Dad
Honesty in a Relationship
Seems simple enough, yet many couples have reservations in being honest with their partner from day one. My personal advice is to be truthful from that first date and from there after.
New relationships are always exciting and what can make them even better is having an open relationship and the integrity it needs to be successful. How honest should you be? Avoid the questions like how many dates have you had, but rather what caused those dates to fail and what you can do to improve not only yourself but a relationship as well. The secret to honesty is relatively simple--be sincere, truthful and real. No one enjoys a phony and if you are upfront with your partner, the trusting and bonding you will have can only become stronger.
Trust is a moral we all live by; In a relationship there are deep connections emotionally, physically and spiritually. When we are not honest with ourselves and our partner, the relationship will suffer.
Being honest is in a relationship takes a lot of courage and love. Always remember each day is a new challenge and requires you to listen to others. All of us have insecurities - so know yours and your strengths.
So I am offering three suggestions:
-
First, be true to yourself and like yourself, only then can you be honest with another.
-
Second, don’t focus on the past or future; focus on the present. remember that honesty is the best policy, and that if you harbor ill feelings your relationship at some point will suffer.
-
Finally, remember actions speak louder than words and this is especially true with honesty. Actions take effort and words do not, so don’t allow yourself to fall into a puddle of cliches.
Good Luck!!
