Open Relationships

Life has changed; no longer may a relationship exist between just two people. In our society today couples are exploring more with the same and opposite sex. This article will attempt to focus on both sides and allow you to determine which might be best for your relationship.

If both couples agree to this type of connection your relationship may flourish. It may mean that both of you are completely confident in Yourselves, each other, profess complete honesty and enjoy the opportunity to explore your sensuality. Most open connections tend to happen due to your partner’s inability to fulfil the needs of one another; this by no means that the love you may have for one another is not real, it just means that you both accept the desire of each other's needs. As in all relationships, not only is communication critical for this to succeed but also an open mind, especially when engaging with the same sex. Do the benefits outweigh the negatives that is the question you need to decide; so let’s look at the negative side of this concept.

The first issue that comes to mind is the health concern; with today’s issues of transmitting sexual disease, is having more than one relationship worth the risk?

Another issue can be the lifestyle you begin to lead; although your partner may be fine in sharing you, your partner may not be happy with the time away or the money being spent. This could eventually lead to jealousy, anger and a breakup.

Intimacy may suffer; having multiple partners doesn’t mean having more sex, in fact people in many relationships have less and meaningless sex is the norm. Also, the act of intimacy may no longer be as intense or Exciting.

Finally, having multiple partners may mean your goal in life to find that one person to share your life with and begin a family may never happen; this may be a difficult decision but my advice is to communicate with others who are in an open relationship and seek out professional advice to guide you both in your decision.
