Responsibility Within a Relationship

The union of two people is a serious responsibility that needs to be digested before you commit to one another. Prior to your relationship your life was your own and the only one you needed to answer to was yourself; now begins a whole new world where you will accept the importance of caring for another and setting priorities within your life.

This article will discuss several responsibilities that are important for couples to practice and maintain using the acronym REAP/

Respect- This is an extremely important makeup in a relationship; showing respect is showing love. We all need respect for it shows how others think of you, makes you feel good about yourself and shows your partner that you accept them for who they are.

Express- Life is way too short not to accept the responsibility of showing your partner your love for them. Expressing your love in a relationship gives a sense of security and trust; it does not need to be done by expensive gifts or material items, simply acknowledging their presence and saying “I love you “ makes your partner feel appreciated and loved.

Attention- In a relationship it can be easy to get into a rut and allow things to get stale and boring. Both partners have a responsibility to allow this not to happen. Attention costs nothing but yields dividends. It can be just some cuddling on a sofa or opening a car door; what it shows is that you care and you want to please your partner.

Partner- Speaking of your partner, the responsibility you have for each other will dictate your lives together. It is the responsibility of both of you to engage in behavior that will makes each other a better person. Partners need to share responsibility so that they can follow their dreams and goals; to do this you need to share the responsibility of communication, feelings and acceptance of who they are.
