Unique Women's Wedding Rings

Finding the right style of wedding ring is already enough work then, you’ve got all of the wedding planning to do on top of it all. Throw planning your wedding reception and honeymoon into the pot and it’s starting to overflow. It’s enough to stress you out — and that’s putting it lightly.

Then, you have the issue of finding your ring size. If you don’t know your wedding ring size, it can become stressful quickly. You’re already trying to buy women's wedding rings online and now you’re questioning whether you’re a size 6 or a size 8.

So here’s the conundrum: what’s your ring size? Better yet, while you’re at it, what is the average ring size for women?

Now, let’s consider the size of rings in the U.S. Rings go in increments of half measurements, ranging from size 3 all the way to 14. Women’s rings tend to run between sizes 3 to 9, while men's rings are measured between size 7 to 14. But what is the average ring size for women?

The average ring size for U.S. women is approximately a size 6. Whether you’re a size 6 is a whole other question, though. This is why it’s best to consider the size of your fingers, down to the exact measurements.

First of all, take a look at your fingers. Your knuckles will make all the difference. If you have thin fingers but thicker knuckles, you’re going to need a ring that’s slightly larger — usually half a size larger than the base of your finger.

Knowing your ring size will also require you to be precise. While you can guesstimate, it’s not smart to test your luck when ordering your wedding ring. You're also going to want to measure your fingers on multiple occasions. Why?

Temperature changes can cause the finger to swell and shrink, so it’s important to get an average number when it comes to your overall ring size.

But how do you best measure your ring size at home?

Measuring Your Ring Size at Home

There’s a number of different ways you can effectively measure your ring size at home. From a ring size chart to getting exact measurements of your finger, you can get a ring number and get the exact ring you need.

For instance, a size 3 ring is 14mm in diameter. Meanwhile, a size 3.5 is 14.4 mm and a 4 is 14.8 mm. So the diameter of a ring increases by 0.4 mm every half-increment increase.

So how do you go about measuring your ring size?

Measuring with a Ring Size Chart

The first way includes buying an at-home ring size chart. This allows you to get effective measurements by simply placing your finger through the size holes and seeing whether it fits comfortably on your finger.

Something to remember? Your ring should fit comfortably, but it should still be a little snug. You want to be sure your ring doesn’t fly off when you fling your hand or swing it around.

Go to a Jeweler

Even if you’re buying a ring online, you can still go and see a professional jeweler to get an accurate measurement of your ring size. Beyond getting your finger measured, they can also help you find what ring width best fits your finger, as well as how thick you want your band to be.

You can even try on a few different rings to get an idea of what size looks and feels best on your finger before you find a better priced ring online. This is a great way to ensure you get a ring that perfectly fits your needs and desires.

Measuring Your Ring in Other Ways

A more at-home way to measure your ring is to use a piece of string, thread or floss to measure your finger. If you’re using floss, cut a piece of floss and place it around your finger, tightly. Make a mark where the end of the floss meets with the rest of the floss. This will be an indication of your diameter.

Now, you’ll want to break out the ruler and figure out the diameter of your ring. Then, it’s on to figuring out your ring size. For instance, if you have a measurement of 14.4 mm, you’ll be wearing a size 3.5. If you measured a diameter of 17.3 mm, you’re wearing a size 7.
