Attitude versus behavior

Notes From Dad

This is a conversation that brings about many different ideas, philosophies and opinions, however, this article will attempt to identify what each one means and how important they are in a couple’s relationship.

Let’s take a look at what attitude really is and how important it is within a relationship between couples. Attitude is all about making a decision about someone or something that you have encountered; There are several types of attitude; first having a positive one, second having a negative and last being neutral. Being positive is all about hoping for the best and when things or people present unforeseen problems you and your partner are able to deal with them in such a way that all becomes good. Having a negative attitude is when the world and everyone in it are to blame; you and your partner feel no hope and anger and frustrations begin to tear away at your relationship. Neutral attitude, in my opinion, could be the best; it provides compromise and is not as critical as it brings a couple together with the hope of compromising.

Now let’s look at behavior; behavior is defined by how a person acts or reacts when presented with some type of interaction in a relationship. A couple’s behavior is usually a key to their attitude. Two types of behavior that usually show up in relationships are the need for attention and when things don’t go well they exhibit behavior that avoids dealing with the problem. In a relationship, a couple’s behavior will be influenced by their attitude. Behavior can be displayed through verbal, physical and psychological means and what often happens is that a couple will find themselves in therapy to help solve the problem.

Finally, I feel that it is safe to assume that maintaining a positive or neutral attitude within the relationship will secure a solid foundation and help bring about change that may be needed for you both.

Good Luck !!
