Tis the Season
Does it not seem that we just celebrated the holidays a few months back? As we begin to walk around stores we hear and see the familiar holiday music and the cheerful employees; at home we observe way too many commercials on TV for things we really do not need and then it sets in, this maybe the time to cement a relationship via an engagement or marriage. Truth be known, this time of year is magical but it can also bring about a high level of stress for couples. This article will discuss some of the stressful manifestations that can happen at this time of year between you and your partner.
Emotional meltdowns- causes can range from anxiety to depression. It is difficult to keep one’s emotions in check during this time. A new couple may put too much emphasis on their first holiday together creating a smothering effect, while other establish couples make an effort to have a better season than last year. One emotional transparency is jealousy; this can be defined by your family or friends situation or the lacking of. Take stock on what causes your emotional upheaval. Communicate your feelings to one another instead of holding them in, be fair to yourself; Don’t be afraid to say no if something or someone is going to create a stressful situation for you or your partner.
Finances- Why do people feel that they need to spend a great deal of cash to achieve happiness only to have those bills come later on and limit your ability to be debt free. It may be said that when the money Is gone, so is the happiness, because spending too much will effect your life and foster a dependency on each other. Look for ways to curtail the costs; make homemade gifts, iou’s for one another, or place a limit on how much to spend on one another.
Be honest- be honest with yourself and your partner as well. This time of year is when couples, in front of family, tend to become engaged or married. However, are you and your partner ready to form a commitment; are you settling down together for the right reasons, more importantly are you in love, a love that will withstand all the good and bad for an entire life. If your answer is yes then “Tis the Season” for you both.
