Public Display Affection

PDA, otherwise known as a public display of affection, can be difficult for some people to understand. What is PDA and why the term “get a room” can be misleading. According to researchers, when couples exchange in any form of mutual physical contact they are engaging in PDA. This article will explore the accepted and unaccepted types of PDA and what meaning lies beneath the actions.

We are all human and one of our human needs is affection; it may be between a man and a woman, a woman and another woman or a man and another man, regardless, the genders, it is important to realize that this showing of affection happens all around the world.

The most common show of affection is holding hands. This is usually seen in the infancy of dating and the beginning of forming a bond between the two partners. Holding hands may help with stress, relieve anxiety and building trust. Kissing is another simple sign of affection that can be very Innocent; however, how you kiss and where you kiss may not be appropriate in public. French kissing or kissing behind ears or the neck area may lead to arousal which certainly should be done where the two of you can have privacy.

So what is unacceptable PDA; groping, touching and any action that may make someone in your company feel uncomfortable. Couples need to realize, although and it’s okay to display your affection for the other person in public, it is not okay to show affection that is meant behind closed doors. Another form of affection which can lead to inappropriate behavior is the use of technology ( i.e. texting, facebook and any other form of social interactions). This can become dangerous because most of the time the pictures or words you post can’t be removed.

One last thing, use the manners and etiquette that you were taught from your family; show respect not only for your partner but also to others; be considerate and appropriate.
