What Is the Average Ring Size for Men?

When we talk about wedding rings, it’s best to know that rings are often sized between a size 3 to a size 14. Sizes can go larger, but that tends to be the median among the entire population.

Men tend to wear anywhere between a size 7 to a size 14 — from the slender fingers of a pianist to the thick fingers of a construction worker. The average men’s ring size is a size 9.

But what exactly do these sizes mean?

Ring sizes are measured in half increments. So, you go from a size 8 to 8.5 to 9 to 9.5 and so on. But what do the actual sizes stand for? They’re simple readings of diameters. For instance, a size 7 has a diameter of 17.3 millimeters (mm); meanwhile, a size 7.5 measures 17.7 mm and then a size 8 measures at 18.1 mm.

So every half size increases by 0.4 mm in diameter. The sizes breakdown as follows:

Measuring with a Ring Sizer

First off, you should start off with a Manly Ring Sizer. You can purchase one of these babies on our website prior to ordering your band, or get one free with any purchase of a Made to Order ring.

When you receive the sizer, pop one of those suckers out and start your journey to finding the right size. You will want to either try sizers on a different times during the day or wear one size all day to make sure you are getting the most accurate measurement. Did you know your ring size can fluctuate throughout the day due to things like temperature, activity, and even if you've eaten lots of salty foods? So put those fries down and measure one more time, just to be sure.

Make sure that the size feels comfortable. You want it to fit on your finger snugly, without it feeling too snug. You also don’t want your ring to slip on or off too easily. If it’s too loose, it could fly off your finger simply by waving your hand. Try to find that happy middle where you can get it over the knuckle, but need a bit of effort to get it off.

Make sure to read size recommendations on the website too! Some rings, like the Fitzgerald, tend to fit a bit looser than your standard size due to it being 6mm.  When in doubt, reach out to our amazing customer service team and they can help with any sizing questions you may have. You can also check out our sizing guide which has great tips, tricks, and tutorials on how to get your perfect size.
